WEATHER CONDITIONS

Season phenology: average

Weather conditions:

Agata River broke on 3-5 June. Snow cover reduced to 50% on 12 and 20 June in lake valleys and mountain tundra respectively, and completely melted in these habitats on 15 and 28 June. The first 10 days of June were cold with snowfalls and frost, while the rest of month was warm or hot and dry. Weather was cold and rainy in July and the first 10 of August.

Season temperature:
Season humidity: rainy
Date of 50% snow-cover:
Date of ice-break on rivers: 3-5.06
Date of final loss of snow:

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

average

Breeding conditions:

Generally, conditions were favourable for reproduction of birds, although cool and rainy wetaher in the second half of summer apparently resulted in deccrease of juvenile survivorship. Predation on birds was not heavy due to rather high total abundance of microtine rodents. In mountain tundra predation on eggs by Ermines resulted in considerable decrease of productivity in the local population of the Lapland Bunting.

Rodent dynamics:

Lemmings and voles were regularly seen on excursions. Microtus sp. voles were abundant in the beginning of summer, but then numbers dropped to normal. We did not catch rodents.

Rodent species recorded:

LatinAbundance
Lemmus sibiricuscommon
Clethrionomys rufocannuscommon

Summary of fauna studies:

Bird counts were conducted regularly. We searched for and studied breeding grounds of the Lesser White-fronted Goose, and studied territorial behaviour of birds of prey.
